CHURCHYARD WORKING PARTY (CWP) 2017
The upkeep of the Churchyard is the responsibility of the Parish and we normally get a grant from the Parish Council to help us to pay a contractor to mow the grass in the front areas fortnightly through the growing season. The area to the rear of the church also needs mowing every couple of weeks but is not suitable for the contractor - it is a tough job requiring as many (young-ish) volunteers as possible. For the last couple of years we’ve found it hard to stretch our volunteers to tackle the Upper Churchyard so, this year, we’re arranging for some help from a contractor.
The CWP traditionally works on the 3rd Saturday each month to tackle the paths, hedges and around all the headstones (weeding, trimming, pruning and lots of strimming). We also tackle extra projects as and when we are able to muster the support needed. With other planned village events (HT Run, Village Show) we have to vary the dates slightly but the following work dates have been earmarked for this year:
18 March, 15 April, 13 May, 17 June, 22 July, 19 August, 16 September, 14 October, a final leaf-raking session on 18 November.
The mowing party for the area to the rear of the church also meets on these days and, additionally, on a further Saturday in between each of the above dates as notified by email by Nick Willis.
If there is a wedding on any of those dates we get out of the way in good time or re-arrange the session. Some members of the CWP prefer to undertake a specific task in their own time and not necessarily on one of the working days. If that is the case please give us a call.
We meet around 0900 and work for a couple of hours, with a break for coffee and a natter! We have some tools in the shed but have to rely on volunteers bringing their own equipment (particularly larger mowers, flymo, strimmers, pruners and rakes). Obviously the more help we can get the easier it becomes - so, please, put these dates in your diaries and encourage others, particularly newcomers, to join us.
CHURCH CLEANING Saturday 18th February is our date for a bit of early spring-cleaning.
Do join us - polish and coffee supplied and a good natter. All welcome.
