I am glad to say that much to my relief there were no disasters at school
this Christmas holiday. Christmas at home was interesting as our friendly
builder was refitting the bathroom before dashing off to Uganda on 2nd
January. He needless to say spent most of pre and post Christmas with us to
the extent that one neighbour thought that he had moved in! She was very
grateful however when a pipe burst and he was able to save the day for her.
Nothing of course went smoothly although fortunately the cooker failed 3
weeks before Christmas this year so we were able to purchase another before
the festivities began. Having collected ‘Nanny’ on the Thursday before
Christmas and successfully negotiated her into the house past masses of
slippery ice she decided to go ‘ice-skating’ on the new carpet and in the
process smashed her face into the window sill. One black eye and cut face
later she enjoyed her stay and did have a bed as the brand new bed settee
fortunately arrived the day before she did!! Our friendly builder
successfully departed on 2nd January, with 2,000 screws and a
clock tower! Where he packs them I am not quite sure, but he is now busy
installing mosquito nets and passing on his building skills to the students
in Uganda. A very Happy New Year to everyone! In case you had forgotten why you moved to Hurstbourne
